SEO or social media ?

We are often asked what is more important – SEO or social media exposure. Well both are of equal importance in my opinion. Good SEO techniques implemented on site is the best starting point

Building a strong foundation – On page SEO

So what is on page SEO? Quite simply, anything you do to your web pages that is aimed at increasing your search engine rankings. This should start with making sure you have all of the relevant meta tags in place. A meta tag is a string of words (key-phrases) hidden within your website’s code.

Title Meta Tag
Description Meta Tag
Alt Tags on images

Once you have these tags in place you can move on to your content. Content is definitely king when it comes to search engines. Google especially want to see good quality content rich websites. So lots of words!

When all of this is complete you will see your rankings improve. Now this may or may not have a massive impact. For instance, if you were on page fifteen you might move to page ten, eleven or twelve. This may not make a huge difference to visits as anything past page three will get limited visits. But if you were page three then you might move to page one. It’s a work in progress. If you didn’t have any optimisation before you started then the chances are you were not ranking or not ranking very well.

Off page optimisation techniques

Off page is anything that doesn’t involve making changes to your website. A good example of this is intelligent link building. By intelligent I mean links to relevant do follow directories and associated websites. All listings should be made under the right category and Country. Business directories are also a good option when building back links.

If you regularly get spammy emails about cheap SEO and back link building then please ignore!! View these emails as you might view the ones that claim you have won the Irish lottery or inherited a million pounds. If you are offered a thousand back links for $20 then yes, it is too good to be true.

Back links take time to be built. We manually submit every client and believe me it’s time consuming. You simply cannot afford to employ any dodgy techniques because you will be black listed. I’m not scare mongering here, it’s a fact and once that happens you are truly stuffed!

Submitting to blog sites and asking suppliers for a link on their website is also a good way to build quality, relevant back links.

Social Media

Social media when combined with SEO is a great way to build Brand awareness but it also boosts your search engine rankings. Google are now using social media metrics as a way of determining your website’s popularity. Basically the more popular it’s deemed to be, the better chance you have of a ranking increase.
